Excellent Ofsted result...

We're pleased to say that our recent Ofsted inspection has rated Stella Maris School 'good with outstanding areas'. The full report is now available to read here and here are some of the things which were said;

“Pupils' behaviour is exemplary at all times and spiritual, moral, social and cultural development are outstanding.”

“Outstanding provision for welfare, health and safety ensures that pupils routinely enjoy healthy lifestyles and confidently adopt practices that ensure their safety.”

“All groups achieve well including in English and mathematics. The teaching of communication, reading and writing skills is a towering strength of the school.”

"Pupils mature very quickly into caring, thoughtful and extremely well mannered young citizens. They are remarkably articulate."

“The imaginative curriculum meets pupils' interests well, including in music, sports and French.”

“Pupils develop and apply a wide range of skills so that they are well prepared for the next stage in their education.”

“Early Years children make good progress developing all the key skills they need. Personal and social development is excellent. They develop very positive attitudes towards learning and play together happily.”

"Staff are very highly committed to the well-being of pupils and treasure them as individuals."

Stella Maris Gets Active

Pupils can now take part in cooking and drama clubs during school time as part of an all-new extended programme of optional extra-curricular activities offered at Stella Maris.

Calling upon the expertise of highly skilled and Ofsted-rated ‘outstanding’ drama teacher Kate Lambert, the school’s optional new ‘Drama Shed’ club takes place each Wednesday lunchtime. Through performing mime, improvisation, and physical theatre the club reinforces pupils’ self-confidence and helps develop their acting skills ahead of the school’s annual summer and Christmas concerts.

For those pupils with a taste for finer foods than cupcakes, Kiddy Cook’s Nikki Geddes presents the pupils with healthy recipes during the Thursday lunchtime Cooking Club. During Chinese New Year pupils prepared vegetable spring rolls to be cooked at home and for Australia Day damper bread was on the menu with the pupils learning what makes the dough rise.

With the assistance of PTA funding to make the new activities affordable for parents, our plan is to roll out more extra-curricular clubs on a termly basis. Commenting upon the school’s new activities, headteacher Mrs Johnson said: “we want to encourage pupils to try out new things whilst they’re in school so they may discover their forte whatever that might be.”

With well over half Stella Maris pupils taking part in the activities offered (which also includes music, speech, dance and sports), our enviable level of success when it comes to pupils applying for local grammar school places is not surprising; the year 6 leavers are able to demonstrate themselves as well-rounded and active individuals.
